The tamarisk tree thrives in the desert, grows strong, and protects those who flock to it. In the Biblical land of what is now Israel, people would seek out its pleasant, cooling shade. Called "eshel" in Hebrew, this tree served as a haven where people could rest while congregating with friends, family, and fellow travelers.

Today, there is similiar refuge taking root right here in Rhode Island.

As part of its continuing commitment to enrich the quality of life for older adults and their families, the Jewish Seniors Agency (JSA) has broken ground for Tamarisk, its enriched assisted living residence. It is in the spirit of this sturdy desert tree that Tamarisk will rise on our land as a symbol of hospitality and care, making all who go there feel welcomed and protected.
